So, you have been bitten by the radio bug, and you wish to get on the air. Not so fast though! In order to legally operate, you need to get licensed.
In order to get your license, there are a few steps to take:
- Apply for the Radio Amateur’s Examination (RAE)
- Sit for and pass the RAE
- Apply for your license.
So how does one apply for the license? Download the examination registration form here and submit the form to the Info-communications Media Development Authority (IMDA). You should receive instructions as to the venue and the time of your examination via email and post.
After you have registered, you should study for the examination. We provide some information in regards to the exam here. The Singapore Amateur Radio Transmitting Society (SARTS) hosts study materials on their website. Click here to access the page.
Note – 1 Oct 2018: We are currently preparing our own study materials and will host lessons in the near future. Do check back in future for updates!
After you have passed your examination, head over to LicenseOne and search for “Amateur Station License”. Follow the instructions to apply for your license. Prepare and submit any necessary documentation, such as your examination results, type of radio you wish to get, etc.
Your license may take up to a month to process. Please wait patiently as IMDA processes your license application.
